Mobile-first indexing is already coming our way in the next few days! What does this mean and how do you know if a website is good enough according to new standards?
From March, only website content that is accessible on the mobile version will be included in the Google index. The change is not entirely new, the content of mobile website variants has already been indexed preferentially for several years. But now it means: desktop-only websites are no longer considered at all.
Is your website mobile optimised?
First check whether all the important content of your website can be seen on the mobile phone and whether it adapts to the screen size. If this is the case, your site is mobile-optimised. Further guidance is provided by the guidelines published by Google with concrete recommendations. We summarise them briefly here:
- Make sure that your mobile and desktop variants are the same in terms of content.
- Make sure that the Googlebot can access your content.
- Check visual content (images and videos) for quality and visibility.
In the Google Search Console you can also find information about possible problems with the mobile view.
